Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, believes that most jobs will undergo fundamental changes, leading to a destabilization of the workforce rather than simple augmentation of human intelligence. He cited the DeepMind AI lab’s milestone of creating a computer program capable of defeating human champions in the strategy game Go as a sign of AI’s potential.
At the time, AI had not yet reached the level of large language models such as ChatGPT, but the pace of development soon exceeded expectations. In 2023, Gates challenged OpenAI to develop an AI model capable of scoring at the highest level on an AP Biology exam, a task he assumed would take years. Instead, the goal was achieved within months, reinforcing Gates’ belief that AI represents one of the most significant technological breakthroughs since the graphical user interface of the 1980s.
