The series premiered on Netflix on 20 October with no weekly schedule: every episode is available now. GamesRadar+ put the drop at midnight Pacific / 3 a.m. Eastern, which is 8 a.m. in the UK. Like the first season, it runs 10 episodes and streams exclusively on Netflix.
Fans who went to Anime Expo got a head start. The first episode screened with its English dub at the convention in Los Angeles in early July, Anime News Network reported.

- Roman Carax (Momoka Terasawa / Valeria Rodriguez): a young cinephile chasing real stories in a city that has abandoned film for braindance.
- Talia Yang (Akari Kitō / Kimoy Lee): raised in corpo towers but hardened in the grip of Maelstrom, the gang obsessed with chrome and cyberware.
- D (Kōki Uchiyama / Nazeeh Tarsha): a Snake Nation netrunner hunting the killer who wiped out his clan.
The supporting cast includes Avida, a former jazz singer and Weak’s old flame who is now married to a Kang Tao executive and is Talia’s mother.
Do you need to watch season 1 first?
No. In its review, IGN says you don’t need to have seen the first series or played the game to enjoy the new story, though knowing the world helps. The season does tie into David Martinez’s story from season 1 “in key ways,” IGN notes, and it works in the Relic and Soulkiller storyline from Cyberpunk 2077.
Hideo Kojima’s cameo
The biggest surprise for gamers is a familiar face. The official Edgerunners account confirmed on 19 October that Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding, returns as Hideyoshi Oshima. As GamesRadar+ notes, Oshima is the braindance director players meet in Konpeki Plaza during “The Heist,” one of Cyberpunk 2077’s earliest and most memorable missions. GameSpot adds that the character was modelled on and voiced by Kojima in the game.

- Music: the opening theme is The Cure’s “10:15 Saturday Night” and the ending theme is “Watson” by Petite Meller. Rapper Rico Nasty wrote and performed “YOU CAN’T RUN FROM ME,” which featured in the second teaser.

Early reviews are strong. IGN gave it a 9 out of 10. Reviewer Rafael Motamayor wrote that it “doesn’t feel as monumental as its predecessor, but it still delivers a spectacular season of television,” praising its fight scenes and visuals, which keep the bright, expressionistic look of the original while shifting styles to reflect characters’ state of mind.
The main criticism: with several storylines running at once, IGN found the plot can feel “convoluted and sprawling at first,” and the characters less fleshed out than in season 1, before everything comes together in a big, body-horror-heavy finale.
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5: the free Edgerunners 2 update
CD Projekt Red is also bringing the show into the game. Announced on premiere day, the free Edgerunners 2 Update (Update 2.5) for Cyberpunk 2077 will:
- Release on 22 October 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following shortly after.
- Add content inspired by the anime plus other new items and features. The studio has teased cyberware customisation and a new dual-wielding playstyle.
- Be shown in detail during a special REDstreams broadcast on Wednesday, 21 October, at 5 p.m. CEST (11 a.m. ET) on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, with official patch notes published the same day, according to Cyberpunk.net.
It follows the pattern of the first season: CD Projekt Red released the original Edgerunners Update (Patch 1.6) on 6 September 2022, ahead of season 1’s Netflix debut, adding anime-inspired gear and a wardrobe system, VICE recalls.
What’s next for Cyberpunk
The franchise is busy beyond Netflix. GameSpot notes that a big-screen movie adaptation is in development and that work continues on Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
