Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again expressed his determination to bring Greenland under American control, reiterating that he believes the territory will ultimately become part of the United States.
In a recent interview, Trump emphasized that while military intervention remains a possibility, he is confident that Greenland will eventually be absorbed into the U.S. by other means. He reaffirmed that all options remain open regarding the autonomous Danish territory.
Strategic Interests and Global Influence
Trump framed the potential acquisition of Greenland as a matter of international security, citing Russian and Chinese military activity in the Arctic region as a primary concern. He pointed out that naval vessels from these nations, as well as others, frequently operate in waters near Greenland, raising what he considers to be significant geopolitical risks.
“We cannot allow developments that could threaten global stability or the interests of the United States,” Trump stated. However, when asked whether acquiring Greenland would send a message to Russia, he dismissed the notion, asserting that the issue was unrelated to broader geopolitical tensions.
“This is about peace, security, and global strength,” he explained, maintaining that the U.S. must take responsibility for safeguarding the region.
Repeated Justifications for Acquisition
